I agree, it's so important to keep those who men and women who are serving our country in our thoughts and prayers.
CatherineAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8267688557993866446.post-26172940391806927392013-07-17T08:09:11.544-07:002013-07-17T08:09:11.544-07:00Confessions are for things that are wrong - I don&...Confessions are for things that are wrong - I don't think being obsessed with cemetaries is wrong! These are beautiful and important places. I remember a high school English class in Staunton, VA, where the teacher had us make tombstone rubbings, to imagine the life of the one buried there. Over the years, I've heard that such rubbings destroy tombstones - perhaps not the best activity. However, that teacher helped me to pause and reflect in these holy places. As readers, writers, teachers, there is a natural fascination there. And the reflections and questions you present here are really a means of continuing to give these lost lives meaning in the world.

This feels like something that could/should spur some further writing? Don't feel bad. :-) I grew up in Connecticut and we had wonderful small cemeteries all around. I loved wandering through them early in the morning when it was quiet and dew was on the ground. And I loved seeing some of the sandstone headstones that dated back to over 300 years. So cool. Thanks for sharing.
